                                                                               barn conversions

Ellwood is ideally placed to create stunning bespoke double glazed windows or doors for a whole host of renovation works or replacement windows and doors. We have carried out numerous projects for barn conversions, stable blocks and coach houses, combining traditional looks with modern security and weather proofing systems. We create stunning looks but in sympathy with the original building. Often we liaise with conservation officers or listed building personnel along with the client’s desires and achieve installations that with simple, basic maintenance should last into the next centuries.

We accept that in many instances, oak is wanted but it isn’t “usually” the ideal timber for use in window and door construction as it can twist and move quite considerably. Our timber of choice would be Sapele but we will happily use oak (or indeed a very similar looking timber called Idigbo) or other hardwoods. Oak laminated timber offer a solution too. Given our knowledge of the timber’s characteristics and likely stability in these situations we will advise and comment accordingly.  We can for example use laminated oak to give the desired effect. Cost is another factor in all this and Sapele is a competitively priced hardwood when compared to other species.

A detailed, written overview can be given and all aspects of a project priced separately if required. There are many existing Ellwood created examples in existence and so reference sites are not usually a problem.

Like everything we do - pride in the job with skilled craftsmen and a family owned business approach - ensures that all our clients are well looked after.
